Happiness Is Not The Destination, But The Journey Itself

Life is full of discoveries, ups and downs, obstacles to overcome and achievements to treasure. My journey as a nail technician feels exactly like that path.

Let's begin with sadness. Sadness appears when mistakes are made - when I fail to fully understand a clients expectations, or when my work doesn't turn out the way I had hoped. It also lingers in unexpected moments, like walking down a familiar street and suddenly seeing someone I once loved, but no longer being able to approach them. We had beautiful memories together: warm embraces, gentle care, and kindness that once felt endless, yet, I was shy and I let that love slip away. Though regret still touches my heart, knowing she is safe and healthy brings me comfort. I remind myself to grow, to become a better version of who I am, so that kind of pain never returns. I've learned that love continues to exist - even when distance keeps us apart.

Then comes the tears. Tears fall when someone passes away, when there are no more chances to see them again in this lifetime. In those moments, all we can do is give our best, even if only once, so that regret doesn't weigh too heavily on our hearts. Tears may feel sorrowful, yet they carry a quiet promise: that we will meet again, somewhere beyond the rainbow. And after every storm of grief, joy returns - with laughter, with dancing, life colours shining even brighter.

My hands trembled, my lines weren't perfect and I wondered if I would ever be good enough, but with each client, design and correction became a lesson. I learned to listen more carefully, not just to words but even to silence such as body language, facial expressions, verbal gestures and even unspoken wishes of those who sat across from me. Slowly, I began to realise that being a nail technician is about painting nails - it's about painting confidence, care and comfort into someone's day. Growth is the quiet reminder that every small improvement leads to a bigger change.

Then there is joy. Joy sparkles in the eyes of the client who sees here nails finished and whispers, "Wow, they're beautiful!". Joy lives in the laughter we share over simple conversations in the trust built between strangers who become friends. Sometimes it arrives unexpectedly - like bright colour chosen on a gloomy day, or a delicate design that makes someone feel special again. These small sparks of joy remind me that happiness isn't far away. It lives in the work of my hands. in the stories exchanged and in the connections that beauty helps create.

Finally, there is meaning. Looking back, I realise this journey has been more than a career. It has been mirror of life itself - filled with sadness, tears, growth and joy. Every client who walks through the door carries a story. Sometimes they come with heavy hearts, with dreams or even with celebrations, yet somehow, I get to be a part of their journey, even if it is just for a little while. That is the meaning of my work - not simply creating beauty on the outside but touching lives in ways that leave lasting impressions.

Ultimately, this journey has revealed a greater truth. Being a nail technician is not only about individual artistry, but also about collective well-being. These skills we refine in our profession are tools are our tools for service - to uplift, to encourage, and to contribute to the beauty of our community. With this in mind, it becomes essential that we extend our work beyond the salon.
